Botulinum toxin is approved by the FDA to treat eye muscle disorders,
including strabismus, abnormal neck and shoulder contractions and vocal cord
spasms. Current research suggests botulinum toxin injections may relieve
migraine and tension headache symptoms.
What to expect after treatment?
You can return to your regular activities immediately after the injection. The effects of the injection on the targeted areas are usually immediate, though they may take 3 - 4 days to fully appear in some cases. The results may last up to 120 days; after that, you begin to see the symptoms return.
Risks
Other side effects include temporary facial pain, redness at the injection site. The long-term effects of repeated Botox injections are not known.
